Individual Testing
We only conduct tests requested by doctors, lawyers, local authorities,
police or employers on behalf of the donors - we do not perform tests
for private individuals. We receive a number of enquiries from parents
and from private individuals about their suspicions that relatives may
have a drug problem, or that they themselves feel they may have been a
victim of a 'spiked' drink. We always recommend that in such circumstances
you should contact your doctor, your local Drug Advisory Team,
Substance Misuse Service, or Police for advice
first.
Alternatively (in the UK) there is an independent government-funded service
called Talk
to Frank with a confidential e-mail helpline, plus a 24-hour
phone helpline on 0800 77 66 00.
We receive many requests for testing hair without the relative's knowledge:
we do not test hair without the donor's consent, and
if drugs have been taken, the test - especially a secret one - won't solve
the problem.
Experienced counselling is strongly recommended.
Testing plays only a small role in the overall discussion, education
and understanding of the misuse of drugs. Once an individual has sought
advice and is still seeking a test then they should ask their doctor
to contact us.
