Case Study 4
Post Incident
This company operates major printing presses including
national newspaper print runs late at night. The business runs with
many part-time and casual staff who turn up to begin work on the late
shift at or close to 'last orders' in the local pubs and bars. The company
makes it very clear that no one under the influence of drugs or alcohol
is allowed to work for them but occasionally a mistake in the presses'
preparation will be made or an accident will happen. If the manager
thinks drugs and/or alcohol may have played a part, he asks the staff
involved to provide a saliva sample. The procedure takes less than 5
minutes and the sample is sent to a lab for a drug panel and alcohol
test.
