Police Forces - Recruitment and Workplace Testing

Important News Spring 2007 North East Region of Police Authorities become latest TrichoTech clients

Medscreen , one of our sister companies, has been awarded the contract to provide workplace drug testing services for 6 Police Forces in the North East of England, with TrichoTech providing all the hair and oral fluids test requirements. We are now providing over 40% of all Police Forces in England and Wales with hair analysis services, and a further 15% are close to choosing their supplier.

Please note: following this latest competitive tender, the procurement process that was carried out has resulted "in a standing offer being available to any other Police Authority listed in Hazell & Co Police and Constabulary Almanac who potentially have a requirement for the service." If your Authority is in the process of introducing a Substance Misuse Testing programme (or is looking to update an existing one) you will be able, if you wish, to procure under the terms of the North Yorkshire Police Authority Contract without the requirement for an additional competitive tendering process. The scope of the contract encompasses pre-employment, random and 24 hour emergency "with cause" testing using urine, oral fluids, hair and breath. It also includes the option for sample collection to be carried out by the contractor or by the Authority.

TrichoTech has appointed a national account manager for UK Police, following huge interest in the ultimate safeguard for Forces aiming to recruit a drug-free workforce - hair analysis tests. These provide a long window of detection - typically up to 3 months profile of drug use - and by doing so are far more effective in preventing the evasion or fraud that a urine test might allow.

Read more about how we perform the tests in the Guide to Drug Testing article in June 2006 that appeared in Police Professional - and don't just take our word for it, take a look at how a journalist viewed Ineffective Drug Testing "putting police forces at risk" which appeared in the Police Review in August 2006.

Hair doesn’t lie is a Personnel Director’s view on hair tests and a TrichoTech Director responds to the comment about environemental contamination in the earlier article mentioned above (letters published in the Police Review).
